Considered as one of the fittest and stylish actors in the Indian film industry, the heartthrob  of the 80s, Suniel Shetty was in the city for a brand promotion. Dressed in a two-piece suit, he can still give young actors a run for their money. Sharing with us some fond memories of the city, he says, “I have done a lot of film shoots in Chennai. But one film that is close to my heart is Hera Pheri. We shot for 45 days in various parts of the city and this film went on to become a cult comedy classic.”

Though he is fond of Tamil films, the actor’s last outing was in 2001. “I was doing a lot of Hindi films back then and didn’t really have the time to do other language films. That said, I received a few offers in Tamil and Telugu industries. Unfortunately, all of them were characters with negative shades and I don’t want anything negative. When it comes to regional films, I prefer doing a positive character,” Suniel shares.

The actor, however, lauds Tamil films and says, “I am always amazed by the quality of films produced in the Tamil film industry. Also, Kollywood has got some amazing technicians and great writers.”

Steering the conversation towards the hot topic in town, we ask Suniel his opinion about Kamal and Rajini’s entry into politics. “I don’t know how smart actors could be when it comes to politics and what difference it would bring. But when stalwarts like Rajini sir and Kamal sir are venturing into politics, I think it would change the political scenario. Politics need actors like them who are dedicated and clear about their political agenda. Though politics is not my cup of tea, I can be of help to Rajini sir or Kamal sir, whenever they need me,” he assures.

The actor was always into fitness and might be fitter than most men half his age. “You have to take good care of yourself, once you cross a certain age. Make some minimal lifestyle changes to keep fit. The mental block against hitting the gym happens to everyone at some stage. But if you get out of that dilemma, half the battle is won. Also, make sure that you indulge in any physical activity like cycling, running, playing sports like basketball, volleyball or football.”

A doting father, Suniel is proud of his daughter Athiya Shetty’s achievements in Bollywood. “I am glad that she follows her passion and chose acting as her career. The only piece of advice I give her is that ‘Be fearless and don’t let failure scare you.’
