Cops stumped as robbery suspect asks them to check police app
When they secured a robbery suspect on Monday, a team of police officers from Velachery was taken aback when he asked them to check their mobile app to ascertain if he was indeed a history-sheeter as they believed.

He was referring to the face recognition app used by the police to identify criminals. Â
However, it did not help him, as the police personnel found that he was released from prison just three days ago in a robbery case in Taramani.Â
The man, identified as Surya (20) from Taramani, was under the influence of ganja when the police secured him, said an officer.Â
Velachery police received an alert from the control room about Surya, following which they secured him. A mobile phone and Rs 1,000 in cash were seized from Surya before he was remanded on robbery charges. Â
What amused the police team was that a burglar was aware of the mobile phone application provided to the personnel to identify history-sheeters by clicking their photo on their mobile phones.
