Residents install CCTV cameras to prevent crime
Following several incidents of chain snatchers and burglars having been arrested with the help of CCTV footages available in the locality, police are encouraging residents to bring their area under CCTV surveillance.

After a recent public-police meet under Mylapore Deputy Commissioner Saravanan, a group of youngsters of Ram Nagar in Ice House have pooled in money to install as many as 15 cameras in their locality.Â
The cameras were inaugurated by the police officials on Sunday evening. "It is a precautionary measure and we are happy that the youth took our suggestion and implemented it, said the Deputy Commissioner.Â
While most of the public places are already under surveillance, the crimes could be effectively curbed by bringing the residential areas to under CCTV coverage, Saravanan added.
