Women attacked with spirit succumbs to burns
Lab assistant Yamuna (34), who had suffered 46 per cent burns after her employer allegedly threw spirit on her and set her ablaze six days ago near Madipakkam, succumbed to injuries on Friday night.
Chennai
Her employer Raja had already been booked under Sections 307, 506 (1) of the IPC and lodged in Puzhal prison. The sections were converted into murder following Yamuna’s death. Police are planning to take him into custody to find out whether he attacked her after she turned down his sexual advances.Â
A resident of Sivaprakasam Nagar in Madipakkam, Yamuna worked at Balaji Diagnostics Centre owned by Raja on NSK Road in Vanuvampet near Madipakkam. Her husband Anand (40) is a car driver and the couple has a four-year-old daughter.Â
The Madipakkam police, who were investigating the case, had earlier said Raja attacked Yamuna after she threatened to quit since he did not pay the salary as promised. Raja and Yamuna had earlier worked at the same private hospital. When Raja opened a diagnostic centre four months ago, he invited Yamuna to join his lab promising her thrice the salary she was earning at the hospital.
