Mobile phone triggers gelatine stick blast, two injured
Two men, who stole gelatine sticks from the stone quarry where they were working, suffered injuries after it exploded. The blast is suspected to have been triggered by mobile phone radiation. The injured were identified as Kannan (34) and Kumar (30), workers at a stone quarry in Murugambakkam near Mathuranthakam.

After finishing work on Thursday evening, the duo allegedly stole three remaining gelatine sticks, which they kept in their pant pocket, along with mobile phones. They went to the nearby farmwell to bathe, and as they were removing their clothes and getting ready to jump in the well, one of the mobile phones started ringing. “It seems to have activated the gelatine sticks that were kept along with the mobile phone, resulting in the explosion,” said police officers.
Alhough they were standing at least 10 ft away, they suffered injuries. Other workers who rushed to the spot admitted them in the Stanley Medical College Hospital. Anaikat police have registered a case.
