The incident happened at the school in Morappur village, where around 957 students are studying. The snake slithered into Class 6 ‘B’ on Friday afternoon at 2.30, when the Science period was in progress. There were 37 students in the classroom when the two- and-a- half- ft long cobra entered from the corridor.
On seeing the snake, the students and the teacher raised an alarm. The teacher also instructed the students to get up and move to the next class. Within seconds all the students of the block of four classes ran out and a chaotic situation prevailed in the school.
Soon the Principal alerted the Fire and Rescue Services wing, the police and Forest department officials. The Fire squad reached the school and managed to catch the snake. “It took around 45 minutes to the catch the snake, as it had taken refuge in a crack on the floor where it joins the wall,” police said. Since the students were reluctant to return to the classroom again, the school declared a holiday.
Hearing the development, a good number of parents arrived in the school with salt, garlic and turmeric powder to sprinkle around the campus. Many also offered to help the school clear the bushes around the campus.
