After the state government announced that 100 mini buses will soon hit the city road, the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) along with other agencies have started to figure out routes for mini buses.

MTC officials said that they received a flurry of requests from residents to operate such buses and the routes would be finalised after studying the demand.
P Viswanathan, coordinator of Chitlapakkam Residents Welfare Association, said, “Such small buses will get a large number of passengers only if MTC plans the routes correctly.”
“For instance, we have been asking for mini buses that can ply from Chitlapakkam connecting Medavakkam, Sholinganallur, Perungudi, Velacherry, Mylapore and the surrounding areas. These routes should be studied and based on it, small buses can be operated there,” Viswanathan said.
A senior official of MTC said, “The new small buses will start plying after May. We have called a few private agencies to study the routes, after which we will send a detailed project report to the government.” The corporation has received many requests from residents to operate buses and they would consider all of them, he added.
