    Suspicious death of driver creates tension

    The dead body of a 33-year-old lorry driver was found in a lake in Kancheepuram on Wednesday evening, after he was allegedly stopped by a police special team along with four other drivers on Monday night near Baluchetty Chatram.

    While his family and friends alleged that police are responsible the death, police claimed that victim G Suresh ran away after police stopped his lorry. This led to tension at the Kancheepuram GH after family refused to receive the body alleging custodial death.

    Police said that Suresh was a resident of Gandhi Nagar in Orikkai in Kancheepuram. On Monday evening he left the house to transport sand and never returned. The next day, another lorry driver informed the family that Suresh along with four other drivers were detained by the Kancheepuram police who remanded the other four after they were produced in a magistrate court and their lorries were seized.

    On Wednesday evening, the family was informed that body of Suresh was recovered from a lake in Keezhabmi. Suresh, is survived by his wife Shankari, a six-year-old son and a 5-year-old daughter.
