Techie’s scooter traced, six held
A day after 27-year-old techie Lavanya Janath was found lying unconscious with bleeding injuries near Thazhambur off Old Mahabalipuram Road, police traced her stolen scooter to a TASMAC shop in Sholinganallur on Wednesday. Following this, Pallikaranai police have picked up six persons for interrogation.

It is said that the TASMAC shop staff noticed a blue colour Honda Activa scooter without number plate when they stepped out around 12.30 am after settling the day’s account. They alerted Semmanchery police. The police personnel who visited the spot suspected that the vehicle could be connected to the attack on Lavanya, and alerted Pallikaranai police that is investigating the case.
The two-wheeler was then taken to Pallikaranai police station, where Lavanya’s father Puchy Reddy and her sister Nisha confirmed that it is her scooter. Fingerprint experts lifted prints from the scooter, while the police are also checking the CCTV footage retrieved from the area for possible leads about the suspects.
Meanwhile, Pallaikaranai police have picked up six persons, including a history-sheeter, Surya, from the neighbourhood for interrogation. MC Sarangan, Additional Commissioner (South) who is supervising the investigation, said no arrest was made until Wednesday night and added that investigation was continuing.
Though police maintained that Lavanya was out of danger, hospital sources said that she continued to be under intensive care. Lavanya was beaten up with a rod by unidentified men near Thazhambur when she was returning to her sister Nisha’s house in Perumbakkam around 2.30 am on Tuesday from her office Global Infotech in Navalur. Passersby noticed her around 5 am and alerted police.
