“Necessary steps will be taken to increase the pace of registration process soon,” an official confirmed.

The newly launched online registration system failed to function properly for the second consecutive day on Wednesday, leading to agitations by the public outside some sub-registrar offices.

This has forced the registration department to instruct registrars to visit sub- registrar offices, where the process was getting delayed after the launch of the new software. In a bid to analyse the crux of the problem, the Directorate of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) has sought daily reports from the registrar offices.

In a circular, Inspector General of Registration J Kumaragurubaran on Wednesday instructed the district registrarto visit at least four sub-registrar offices in their jurisdictions regularly to monitor the online registration process. “There should be no delay in processing of any application and proper reason, if there is any delay, should be reported,” he said, adding that grievances of public should be resolved swiftly.

Meanwhile, licensed document writers and property owners staged protests outside offices in Tambaram, Pammal, Avadi and Selaiyur, all suburban areas of Chennai.
