During the trial of the case that went on in full-swing for the last three months, as many as 30 witnesses, including Hasini’s parents and relatives, gave their testimony in the court. The prosecution also produced 42 documents and 12 objects, including the bag and two-wheeler allegedly used by Dashwanth to carry Hasini, her ash, and hair retrieved from the site where she was burnt.

The same court is also hearing a case against Dashwanth for allegedly threatening Hasini’s father in the court premises when he came for the trial.

Besides the murder of Hasini in February 2017, Dashwanth is also accused of murdering his mother Sarala in December last year after he came out on bail in September. Her jewelleries were also missing, and his father himself had accused him for murdering Sarala for her refusal to give him money when he asked.

As the investigators were hot on his heels, Dashwanth went to Mumbai to evade them, but was captured on December 6. However, he managed to escape from police custody, but was nabbed again by a special team from Tamil Nadu in a joint operation with the police in Mumbai.

On the very first day of the trial, Dashwanth had created a flutter by submitting a letter to the court in which he admitted to murdering the minor girl and asked the judge to do away with the trial process.
