CMRL campaigns against honking with students’ help

CMRL (Chennai Metro Rail Limited), which usually takes school students aboard metro trains to popularize its service and increase patronage, on Wednesday engaged students for an altogether different reason – to raise awareness. And that too on the dangers on honking.

Nearly 300 students of SevaSadhan School on Wednesday gathered outside the CMRL headquarters and turned an otherwise busy Rohini Theatre intersection on Chennai – Bengaluru Highway surprisingly calm for an hour.

Titled “Horn not ok please”, CMRL officials along with the students held banners and circulated pamphlets educating motorists on the ill effects of noise pollution.

The students’ campaign bore fruits immediately, for, the usually annoying heavy vehicles cut down on honking at least for a while. CMRL rewarded the students with a ride on metro train from Koyambedu station to Airport.

CMRL has been taking school students, mostly one’s from government schools, to popularize since opening the underground network in 2017.
