    1.87 lakh licences suspended for norms violations: Road Safety Council

    The State Road Safety Council has lauded the suspension of driving licences of 1,87 lakh persons between January 2017 to January 2018 for over speeding, overloading, carrying of persons in goods carriages, red light jumping, drunken driving and use of mobile phones while driving, according to a press release issued by state transport department.

    To improve the effectiveness of highway patrolling vehicles, prevent road accidents on the National Highways and State Highways, the police department has been directed to monitor the functioning of the patrol vehicles closely.  The council also made an appeal to all the road users to use road safely by observing all the traffic rules and strengthen the hand of the government in saving the valuable lives of the people in road accidents, read the statement. 

    “The Council has also approved the incorporation of Road Safety Education into the curriculum of Text Books of State Education Board from class one to 12th standard,” it stated.
