Land grabbing case: SRO held
The anti-land grabbing wing of the city Central Crime Branch (CCB) arrested a woman sub-registrar officer (SRO) of Royapettah for allegedly colluding with land grabbers.
Chennai
The accused, B Sivapriya (42), was arrested on Tuesday from her house on Arundel Street in Mylapore. Inquiries revealed the SRO allegedly aided land grabbing accused Periyasamy in 2017 to register a land measuring 3,352 sq ft worth Rs 1.5 crore at Kamakoti Nagar near Pallikaranai.Â
Police said that Periyasamy, proprietor of Jeevan Foundation, forged the original sale deed and impersonated the owners with anonymous persons to execute a general power of attorney in his favour on March 24, 2017. Later, Periyasamy registered the property in one Madhavi’s name in November 2017.Â
Sivapriya has been named as third accused while the two witnesses, Vignesh and Rajeshwaran, are fourth and fifth accused in the case. The issue came to light when the original owner S Chidambaram approached the SRO office and got encumbrance certificate for his property.Â
Police said the suspect Periyasamy used the impersonator, identified as Sokkalingam, as the original owner Chidambaram’s father, whose too bears the name Sokkalingam. Periyasamy and the impersonator Sokkalingam were also arrested. Sivapriya was remanded in judicial custody after being produced before a magistrate court in the city.
