    Delimitation: Corporation awaits SEC nod

Proximity to the zonal office was one of the major reasons cited by some residents for opposing the delimitation of wards in the city. This came to light when the Greater Chennai Corporation got public feedback about the draft delimitation of wards. The corporation had given time until January end for residents to give their suggestions.

A senior Corporation official said many of the suggestions were immediately accepted by Corporation Commissioner D Karthikeyan.

“The objections raised by the public to the delimitation draft was discussed and in a meeting with Corporation Commissioner, some of these were accepted and incorporated. For example, some of the streets wanted to stay in a zone, because the zonal office was easily accessible, or some streets stated that they were left out. The new delimitation of wards data will be sent to the State Election Commission for their purview, following which meetings will be held with Corporation to finalise the wards,” said the official.
