Nearly a week after cutting a cake with a machete and posing for photos with history-sheeters with a heavy garland around his shoulders, the much hyped gangster P Binu, who surrendered to police on Tuesday, said that he wants to lead a reformed life and added that birthday bash was planned by his brother without knowledge.

“I am not a big rowdy as you think. I am a diabetic patient…” he said in a video.

Sources said that Binu surrendered before Ambattur Deputy Commissioner Sarvesh Raj and was later taken to Mangadu police station, where he had been booked for gathering about 100 rowdy elements to celebrate his birthday on February 7.

While police managed to secure 75 persons including two juveniles, Binu and two other main accused - A Kanagaraj alias Kanugu (36) and H Vignesh alias Vikki (23) - managed to escape from the spot along with a few others.

While police arrested Mukesh from Pudukottai, Madhavan from Karur and Vinoth in Choolaimedu, Binu remained at large with special teams hunting for him in Kerala, Salem and Krishnagiri districts.

In a one and half minute long video released by the police, Binu has confessed that he surrendered as he was chased by police where he went. "I went into hiding three years ago to get rid of all the taints and lead a reformed life. Expect my brother nobody knew that I was in Karur. He only recently asked me to come to Chennai to celebrate my 50th birthday. I was clueless about his plan of gathering so many people and he had asked me to leave soon after cutting the cake. But police surrounded us and I somehow escaped from the spot," he said.

He also pleaded for mercy to let him lead a peaceful life as he is not such a cruel rowdy as he is projected to be and added that he has been struggling with diabetes.
