After crackdown, cops track list of 8,800 offenders
Following the unprecedented bust that fetched 73 history-sheeters in police net, all police stations in the city have been directed to check the status of similar persons – as many as 8,800 history-sheeters as per records.
Chennai
Of these, 4,550 are on peace bond with police on the promise that they would not commit any crime or cause violence to disturb the law and order situation. Peace bond is entered between offenders established as rowdy elements and the police department in the presence of tahsildar.
If the person stays away from criminal activities in six months that follows, police may consider removing from the list.
Among the remaining 4,250 persons, 928 have been identified as potential offenders. Forty-five of them are classified as A+ category for their involvement in serious crimes, 140 under A category and 225 in B category.
The history-sheeters in these three categories, 420 in all, are in the wanted list. Other than the 250 potential offenders now in prison, the police is supposed to monitor the movement of the rest 678 persons, and report if they are missing from their respective jurisdictions. These are different from burglars and thieves, for whom there is a separate record called KD (known delinquents) list.
