According to sources, a consultative meeting regarding this scheme was recently held in the Secretariat. The associations’ members also demanded that the CMDA outsource the work to private agencies to finish the work faster.

Official sources said that the pending applications were a setback to the real estate industry as no one wanted to buy the plots. Even as builders raised questions over the delay, CMDA officials remained tight-lipped without processing the applications. The authority has received around 55,000 applicati

    ons so far.

S Ramaprabhu, secretary of Builders Association of India, said, “With a couple of months left for the amnesty scheme to end, we are concerned about the next course of action.”  He added, “Also, since CMDA is going through a staff crunch, they might as well take help from officials of Chennai Corporation.”

Ramaprabhu that the Corporation has 15 zones and 200 divisions. “Since every zone has executive engineers, assistant executive  engineers and other field staff,  the CMDA can instruct them to  verify the plots and layouts so that applications can be processed faster,” he said.

Similarly, N Govindasamy, president of Tamil Nadu Construction Engineers and Contractors Association said that the CMDA should outsource the process.

“Lakhs of engineers and construction workers remain jobless due to apathy of concerned officials.

Considering this, the CMDA should take necessary measures to dispose the applications,” he said.

Meanwhile, a senior official of CMDA, said, “We are considering the option take help from other agencies to finish the work faster. We had also had a meeting regarding this recently and are hopeful that the problems regarding the amnesty scheme will be solved by March 31.”
