Ragpicker’s head smashed with stone in drunken brawl

The deceased, identified Jayakumar alias Azhukku Kumar, was found dead with head injuries, near a Tasmac shop on Anna Main Road. On being informed, KK Nagar police rushed to the spot and recovered the body. After the preliminary inquiry, police found out that Jayakumar quarrelled with another person named R Paramasivam (51), who is also a rag picker in MGR Nagar, and secured him. 

Police said that Paramasivam has confessed to killing Jayakumar. They added that Jayakumar and Paramasivam knew each other and after Paramasivam refused to buy him liquor, Jayakumar allegedly tried to snatch the money he had. 

Infuriated over this, Paramasivam smashed his head with a stone and fled the scene.  Inquiries revealed that Jayakumar married Devi and deserted her 15 years ago. She lives in a separate house in Kundrathur. Their two children – Sundar (18) and Malar (17) –  are living with their grandparents. Paramasivam has been remanded in judicial custody.
