43 sovereigns, Rs 17 lakh stolen in three burglaries
Burglars struck at three places in Mambalam and Ponneri, making away with 43 sovereigns of jewels, Rs 17 lakh in cash and silver articles in all.

When Kuppan, a provisional store owner, and his family returned home in Ayarpadi near Ponneri after attending a wedding in Tiruvottiyur on Sunday, they were shocked to see the door broken and the valuables inside the bureau missing. Police said that 35 sovereigns of jewels, two kilo silver articles and Rs 7 lakh in cash were missing, apart from a television set. In another incident in the same locality, 3 sovereign gold jewels and 1.5 kg of silver articles were burgled from the house of Pasupathy in Pon Nagar on Sunday night. Ponneri police have registered cases and have lifted fingerprints from the crime spots. They are investigating whether the same group was involved in both the incidents.Â
Rs 10 lakh burgled from realtor’s officeÂ
Meanwhile, in yet another burglary reported in the city, at least Rs 10 lakh was burgled from a realtor’s office in West Mambalam on Sunday night. B Ramesh (44) of Ganapathy Street stated in his complaint that he left his office, Ancient Realtors, around 10 pm on Sunday night. When he returned at around 8 am on Monday, the entrance door of the office was found broken open, and Rs 10 lakh in cash that he had kept inside the office was found missing. Based on his complaint, Ashok Nagar police registered a case and brought sniffer dogs to the spot. T Nagar Deputy Commissioner Aravindan also visited the spot and conducted inquiries with the resident
