Accidents kill four persons in city, suburbs
Road traffic accidents continued to claim lives in the city and its suburbs, after a series of accidents involving heavy vehicles and a van killed four persons in the last two days.

In one case, 31-year-old Thyagarajan, a resident of Tirumullaivoyal, was run over by a lorry on Friday evening after he fell off his bike at Ambattur third main road. A van driver opened the door without checking the rear side. Thyagarajan rammed to the door, lost balance, and he fell on the road. Then, a lorry coming from behind ran over him, killing him on the spot.Â
On information, his body was retrieved and sent for postmortem examination. Poonamallee traffic police said that both the van and lorry drivers would be arrested on receipt of post-mortem report.
Similarly, a 31-year-old man died after he rammed his mini truck into a stationary container lorry at Porur toll plaza in the wee hours of Friday. The deceased, R Selvamani, hailed from Kulithalai, police said, adding that the man lost his life on the spot.Â
In another accident at Ambattur, a 37-year-old man from Tondiarpet was run over by a tanker. Police said the accident happened when the man was returning home after attending a function in Ayapakkam. Immediately after the accident, the driver fled the spot. Ambattur police have registered a case.Â
At Maduravoyal bypass, an unidentified woman was knocked down by a van in the wee hours of Friday. The driver A Prabhu Deva (21) has been arrested. Police suspect that the woman was mentally unstable, and are trying to ascertain her identity.
