Counterfeit currency seized, two women held in city
A day after two pistols and 10 bullets were seized from three men, including a Chennai policeman Parameswaran in Tiruchy, counterfeit currency with a face value of Rs 62,500 was seized from a house in Ayanavaram, that belongs to one of the accused persons’ sister. Two women were also arrested on Sunday.

City police, however, noted that the arrest of two women and subsequent seizure of counterfeit currency from them were the result of an independent operation. Secretariat Colony inspector Rajeswari said that they got a tip-off about counterfeit currency having been hidden in the locality and secured a juvenile for questioning. Based on the information provided by him, a team of policemen visited the house in Subbarayan Nagar in Otteri on Saturday night.Â
Only after interrogating the woman in the house, Kuppu, police realised that she was Nagaraj’s mother. Kuppu admitted to police that the fake notes have been kept at her daughter Nagalakshmi’s house in NMK Nagar in Ayanavaram. Her house was raided fake notes with a face value of Rs 62,500 were seized. The juvenile was Nagalakshmi’s son and he was later released. Had police delayed a bit, Nagalakshmi would have burnt the notes to evade arrest, said police.
Among the seized notes were a bunch of soiled Rs 500 currencies and Rs 100 notes. The counterfeit notes had the same serial number. Kuppu is a fish vendor and Nagaraj had often given her counterfeit notes to hide them in her house. While Nagaraj is an auto driver, Basin Bridge constable Parameshwaran and another accused in Tiruchy weapon case live in the same locality. The inspector said that Nagaraj will be taken into custody for investigation if necessary.
