Police take historian’s help in Kanchi temple idols case
In the ongoing probe into the alleged embezzlement of fund and gold in the making of two new panchaloha idols in the Ekambaranathar temple in Kancheepuram district, a retired archaeology department official visited the temple, along with the idol wing police officials and checked the old Somaskandar idol on Sunday.

R Nagaswamy, former director, Tamil Nadu Archaeology Department and a reputed historian along with idol wing ADSP Sivasanakran visited the temple on Sunday. After visiting the temple, Nagaswamy told mediapersons that he had checked the antique idol and took pictures of it. He also said that it was not necessary that antique panchaloha should have gold in it.
Idol wing police are alleging misappropriation of donation and fund by Hindu Religious &Charitable Endowment (HR&CE) officials, chief sculptor and priest of Ekambaranathar temple in Kancheepuram in the making of two newly made panchaloha idols, weighing a total of 115 kg, while HR&CE officials had been accusing police of harassing department officials without any basis.
