Woman inspector’s audio note on suicide creates ripple in dept
An audio clip in which a woman inspector from Kilpauk police station reportedly said that she was going to end her life created a ripple in police circles.

The issue gains significance particularly in the backdrop of 19 police personnel in the state killing themselves since April 2017 and 9 attempting to commit suicide. The officer’s audio, which went viral within few hours through various WhatsApp groups, triggered a debate on the work atmosphere of khaki clad men and women.
“It looked like she had some problem of depression. She came for the duty and went back.
As far as I know there was no issue of granting leave or anything,” said S Rajendran, deputy commissioner of police, Kilpauk.
“She is safe and now with her sister. It was a result of a possible depression,” said the deputy commissioner when DT Next contacted him.
The woman officer, when contacted by DTNext, also downplayed the subject saying that it was a minor issue.
In the audio she said that officers are not aware of our hardships. “No peace at home and office and also so depressed,” she said pointing out that her daughters were unhappy because of her regular night duty schedule.
“I have not spoken to my husband directly for days. I have not interacted with my kids for the last three to four days,” she further added.
She further said that her ‘death’ could bring a new dawn for the toiling police personnel.
