Expanded Chennai gets one more Revenue division
Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Thursday launched the expanded Chennai district by carving out revenue villages from Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur districts.

The carved-out revenue villages, which are already under the expanded Greater Chennai Corporation(GCC), have been reorganised and formed into a new division. Post reorganisation drive, the expanded Chennai district would have north Chennai, central Chennai and south Chennai divisions, drawing 55 revenue villages from Kancheepuram and 67 revenue villages from Tiruvallur, with a total of 16 taluks encompassing an area of 426 sq km on a par with the expanded GCC.
The reorganisation would benefit those living in the extended areas of the GCC by providing easy access to various services. North Chennai – headquartered at Tondiarpet would have jurisdiction over Tiruvottiyur, Tondiarpet, Madhavaram, Perambur, and Purasaiwakkam taluks. Central Chennai – headquartered in Ambattur would have ambit over Ambattur, Ayanavaram, Amanjikarai, Maduravoyal, Mambalam and Egmore taluks while South Chennai headquartered in Guindy would have administrative hold over Guindy, Mylapore, Velachery, Alandur and Sholinganallur taluks.
He also launched a host of other initiatives including http://eservices.tn.gov.in which features as many as 24.11 lakh computerised Field Measurement Books (FMBs) of 21 districts, twin-tower staff quarters in Todhunter Nagar coming up a cost of Rs 75.69 crore, mPassport Police App for speedy disposal of
Police Verification Report for Passport applicants, SMS service for witnesses enrolled in Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS), several bridges including the one built over Cooum in Aminijikarai, and ELCOSEZ established in Vadapalanji, Madurai in 245.17 acres of land among others.
