Police said that a couple, Murali (34), an auto driver, and Shobana (28), who had two children were residing at Ashok Nagar.
Viswanathan, a cargo section worker at the airport here and a resident of Ashok Nagar, who used to regularly meet Shobana during morning walk at Sivan Park in KK Nagar developed a relationship with her.
Murali, who came to know about this, confronted Shobana in the presence of her parents – Ravi and Vasantha, and her brother Kannan last week and warned her to abort the relationship. However, Shobana denied any such thing and said that she would not meet Viswanathan again.
Not convinced with her assurance, Murali followed Shobana in his auto along with Vasantha and Kannan, when she went for a walk to Sivan Park on Wednesday morning. All the three were shocked to see her getting onto the bike of Viswanathan, who was waiting near the park. They followed the bike and intercepted the duo at the Nandambakkam playground, where Murali and Kannan attacked Viswanathan. Vasantha allegedly beat her daughter Shobana.
Unable to withstand the attack, both fell unconscious. Murali took a wooden log and hit Viswanathan on his head, killing him on the spot. Later, they took Shobana to a private hospital in their autorickshaw. After learning that Viswanathan was dead, Murali surrendered at the Guindy police station. He was handed over to Nandambakkam police since the murder took place in their jurisdiction. After interrogation, police arrested Kannan and Vasantha also. Murali and Shobana are married for 10 years. Viswanthan is a father of two children.
