Rs75 crore Twin Tower in Saidapet for Grade I,II officers
The skyline of Saidapet would soon be redefined by a “twin tower”, to be constructed adjoining the metro rail station there. Although not in any way even close to the sprawling but ravaged twin towers in US, the multi-storey building meant for babus who matter in the state capital could change the way people see Tod Hunter Nagar.

The dilapidated 1920s built tile-houses in Tod Hunter would be replaced with two towers, each comprising 100 ‘A’ and ‘B’ type houses.
The stilt plus 10 storey towers would accommodate officers of under-secretary rank and above (not IAS), not far from their junior colleagues who occupy the 700 ‘C’ type houses (690sqft each) there. With PWD nearly completing site clearance, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami could lay the foundation stone for the Rs 75.8 crore project in a week. The PWD has set an eighteen-month deadline to complete the housing project, which would put most of the additional and joint secretary level officers in one place in the city.
PWD has applied the same vertical lifting policy, as has been the case in the recently years, utilising minimum space to accommodate maximum people. “The 1920s-built tile houses had only measured 400 sqft each, but each house would sit on a plot measuring two grounds each. The government buildings of the past used to be ground plus two or three floors, but the government has decided to go for vertical lifting, for want of space. Such elevated projects also minimise land cost,” reasoned a PWD engineer requesting anonymity.
