Technical snag delays suburban train
Suburban train service on Chennai – Gummidipoondi section was disrupted following a OHE (overhead electric traction) problem between Ponneri and Gummidipoondi stations.

According to Southern railway officials, pantograph of loco of Train No: 16031 Chennai Jammu Tawi Express encountered some technical snag while crossing Gummidipoondi station at 6.10 am on Sunday. Subsequently, overhead electric power was cut off between Ponneri and Gummidipoondi stations, leaving trains stranded midway on the route.
Several EMU (electrical multiple units) and express trains were delayed owing to power failure, which was resolved, and train service gradually normalised around 9 am. Held up trains were moved one after another after the resolving the pantograph failure triggered power outage. Incidentally, SR had suffered a similar OHE failure at Irumbuliyur, which left EMU services suspended for around three hours from 9.30 am beyond Tambaram on Chennai – Chengalpet section on Saturday.
