Actor Vijay’s father booked for comments on TTD donations
A month after Hindu Makkal Munnani’s (HMM) state head V G Narayanan lodged a police complaint against veteran director and actor Vijay’s father, S A Chandrasekhar, for his remarks at an event against donations to Tirupati Tirumala Devasthanam, a case has been booked by Virugambakkam police against him on charges of hurting religious sentiments.
Chennai
The Madras High Court on December 16 directed police to take action
against Chandrasekar if there were grounds based on HMM’s complaint. Speaking at an audio launch function of an upcoming film, Chandrasekar allegedly equated donations to TTD to bribing of god and added that Tirupati hundi is a place where people go to deposit black money.
In his petition to the City Police Commissioner, Narayanan claimed Chandrasekhar has no right to talk about Hindu religious activities as he is from another religion and it is against the religious beliefs of many people. He also said the comments of Chandrasekhar have hurt Hindu sentiments and the evidences have been submitted to the police. Since police did not take action, the outfit immediately moved HC.
It may be noted that actor Vijay’s latest film, Mersal, was embroiled in controversy since the movie had a few dialogues against Centre’s Goods and Service Tax.
