The officials are also working on providing tickets online for entry to the zoo and services such as safari.

Briefing the media, Deputy Director of Vandalur Zoological Park Sudha Raman said, “Our online services will be launched around Pongal. We have already installed Point of Sales (PoS) machines in which visitors can use their debit or credit cards to avail of our services.”

Speaking about making an outing to the zoo more enjoyable for senior citizens and differently-abled, Raman said, “We are planning to buy wheel-chairs, which will be offered to the visitors free to tour the zoo,” said another official. To monitor the crowd, 32 CCTV cameras would soon be installed in the premises, added the official.

The officials are also planning to buy two more battery-operated vehicles.

“The zoo has already 13 such vehicles and we will buy two more as we are expecting more footfall in the coming days,” the official said.

The zoo authority is also in talks with Assam and Bihar governments to introduce rhinoceroses to the attractions.

“We had a rhinoceros 14 years ago and it attracted a lot of visitors. So we want to bring in rhinos and king cobras to the zoo,” said an official.
