Traffic plan on city beaches for New Years eve
With the city gearing up to ring in 2018, the Greater Chennai Police have made elaborate arrangements to welcome the New Year on a positive note without any untoward incidents. Apart from the various security measures, traffic arrangements have also been planned to control the crowd at Marina and Elliots Beach.

To ensure smooth movement of public vehicles to Kamaraj Salai and Rajaji Salai, the entries to Foreshore Road will be barricaded on December 31 from 8 pm to prevent the vehicles’ entry to the beach-foreshore road. Vehicles inside the foreshore road will be allowed to exit through Kamarajar Salai upto 8 pm, after which vehicles will be allowed to exit only towards Lighthouse.
Vehicles will not be allowed on Kamarajar Salai stretch between Gandhi Statue up to War Memorial from 8 pm on December 31 to 2 am on January 1, 2018. Roads approaching Kamarajar Salai such as Lloyds Road, Besant Road, Ayodhi Nagar, Sunguvar Street, Bharathi Salai, Wallajah Road, Swami Sivanandha Salai junctions will be barricaded completely to prevent vehicles entering Kamarajar Salai. Vehicles will not be allowed from Wallajaha point and RBI North subway towards War Memorial from 8 pm and will be diverted towards Flag staff road to reach Anna Salai.
Vehicles coming from Adyar towards Gandhi Statue will be diverted via Kutchery road-Santhome High road junction to take the diversion route via Luz junction, Royapetttah high road, Music Academy to reach Anna Salai. Vehicle coming from Karaneeswrer koil street will be allowed towards Santhome high road.
Similarly, at Elliots Beach, vehicles will not be allowed after 8 pm on Decemebr 31. Those who want to celebrate New Year either at Marina Beach or Elliots beach can park their vehicles at the closest parking spaces such as Swamy Sivananda Salai, Railway Basement at MRTS Chepauk, and Lloyds Road, Queen Mary’s College campus, Dr Besant Road, Lloyds Road, Besant Nagar 4th Avenue, Besant Nagar 3rd and 4th Main Road, Besant Nagar 2nd, 3rd and 5th Avenues.
