IS links: 25-year-old from city among 2 chargesheeted by NIA
The National Investigation Agency has filed a chargesheet in the NIA special court in Delhi against two persons, including a 25-year-old man from Chennai, who were arrested for their suspected IS links in July this year.
Chennai
Delhi police had arrested Mohammed Mustafa of Anagappanaicken Street in Mannady, Chennai, on July 12 for helping the main accused Shajahan VK of Kerala in procuring a passport on the basis of forged documents, despite having knowledge of Shajahan’s intention to go to Syria to fight for Islamic State (IS).Â
Following the arrest of Shajahan (32) in Delhi for his links with Islamic State, Mohamed Mustafa, a city based travel agent, was picked up by Delhi police a day after his marriage for allegedly organising fake passport for the arrested IS militant. The case was later handed over to NIA.Â
Shajahan was arrested at Delhi airport when he reached there from Turkey based on an alert from CIA. Shajahan was deported from Turkey in March this year and he reportedly went back using a fake passport in the name of Mohamed Ismail Mohideen, which was obtained with the help of Chennai man. This time Delhi police arrested him as soon as he landed at Delhi airport.
Both were booked under various sections of the IPC, including cheating and Passport Act. Shajahan was booked under additional IPC section 125 which deals with waging a war against the government.
