With awareness on, cosmetic gynaecology gaining ground in Chennai

Though the awareness about the procedures such as ‘vaginal rejuvenation’ and ‘G shot’ has increased, many are not comfortable discussing the matter. The concept of cosmetic gynaecology was introduced in the country by a doctor from Tamil Nadu a few years ago. One can witness the growth in the industry in the last six to eight months.

Stating that it is developing as a subspeciality, Dr Deepa Ganesh, the Chennai-based Cosmetic Gynaecologist, who brought the concept to India, said that a separate session is allotted for its discussion at the National gynaecology conferences that are being held across the country.
“Many doctors are now interested in getting trained in Cosmetic Gynaecology and are seeking opportunities,” she said. “Earlier, women who suffered with problems of loose, flappy vagina, would approach doctors looking for options to tighten it.
After giving birth, women would also complain of finding it difficult to orgasm and request
for a solution to no avail.  However, now the doctors are relieved,” she stated. The G shot, which many learnt about last year, is used for the augmentation of the G spot. However, it is only for those who are sexually active and want to enhance it.
“There is also something called the Orgasm shot or O-shot, which is for women who feel very dry, who lack lubrication, and those who suffer from post-menopausal dryness and itching,” said the doctor, adding, “We give the O-shot, which is basically a Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) to the woman after drawing her own blood. We take the PRP and inject it into certain spots in the vagina.”
While the concept has gained the interest of many women, they fear of their identity being revealed. “I receive emails from women who want to come in for rejuvenation and they insist that I refrain from disclosing their identity,” stated Dr Deepa, adding, over the next few years, the process will become less of a taboo.
