Four held for assaulting head constable in Besant Nagar

In the first incident Gunaseeelan, a head constable attached to Shastri Nagar police station, on Sunday night intercepted Shanmugam (27) and Chandrakumar of Aminjikarai, Sheik Adhil (20) of Arumbakkam and Johnson (20) of Choolaimeduon Besant Avenue Road for over-speeding on their bikes, as it would cause inconvenience to pilgrims visiting Velankanni church in Besant Nagar. Police said that incident took place while the youngsters performing stunts on their bikes at Besant Nagar beach side.

When police tried to stop them, they sped away. However, they returned to the same spot with few others. They questioned Gunaseelan if he was authorised to conduct a vehicle check, which led to an argument. The verbal argument turned into scuffle and the four attacked Gunaseelan. With the help of other policemen, Gunaseelan nabbed the four persons, while two others escaped.

Gunaseelan who suffered injury on his head was admitted to private hospital in Adyar. During the investigation, it was found out that they did not hold valid documents, while one of the vehicles did not have a number plate. The vehicles were seized, while all four were remanded in judicial custody.

In the second incident, Shastri Nagar police have arrested three men for allegedly indulging in an argument with a woman sub-inspector and videographing her conducting vehicle checks on Sunday night at Elliot’s Beach in Besant Nagar. The arrested have been identified as Praison (32), Prakash (30) and Amjadkhan (30) of Tondiarpet.
