Chennai police list rules for New Year revelry
With the city gearing up to usher in 2018, Greater Chennai Police have come up with a set of guidelines for safe celebrations on New Year eve.
Chennai
A senior official said that midnight parties can be conducted up to 1 am on January 1 and city pubs will be sent a communique in this regard. Restrictions will be on serving the food and beverages beyond the prescribed hour. Pubs will also have to make sure that those who get drunk do not get behind the wheel.
Like last year, star hotels will be asked to record the details of vehicles that arrive for New Year celebrations and bring the party area under CCTV surveillance.
Ban on parties around pools
Following three persons’ death in 2008 New Year bash after a make-shift stage collapsed into swimming pool at a city hotel, there has been ban on holding parties around pools and it will be followed this year too.
There will also be an intensified check on drunk-and-driving and those found to be riding/ driving vehicles under the influence of alcohol will be punished.
With illicit racing on city roads being reported, there will be a check on that front as well.
Marina and Elliot’s beaches will be brought under complete police control and they will have an eye on untoward incidents including eve-teasing and mishaps.
As for as house parties are concerned, revellers must not exceed the prescribed decibel levels of noise and cause inconvenience to neighbours.
