According to wheeler-dealers, they had been marking walls which would refer to either the part number or serial number of the voters residing in that house, in case the money had been delivered.

“It would serve as a ready reckoner for our co-workers scouting in the locality and would save time to reach out to the unreached electorate in the constituency. If the marking read 208 – 215, the party worker who is assigned to cover that locality will check if the details of the residents of that house matched with either with the part number or the serial number in the electoral list. On a successful match, he/she would check for initials which would reveal the team which reached out to the voters in that house. It would also serve the purpose of auditing the disbursal,” said a party worker requesting anonymity.

Sources said that the electorate had received as much as Rs 6,000 per vote this time which is at least 50 per cent higher than the previous instalment during which Rs 4,000 per vote and that election was subsequently rescinded. This time the coverage had reached up to 80 per cent of the electorate as planned.

Meanwhile, a group of women in Korukkupet on Monday picked up quarrel with the ruling party workers stating that they had not got money for votes. As crowds swolled, the women dispersed without furthering their demand.

When DT Next contacted, City Police Commissioner AK Viswanathan said that the City Police had not received any complaints of wall markings yet. However, he assured to look into the matter.
