In run-up to bypoll, Batra gets complaints on cash-for-votes
Even as allegations of cash-forvotes gained momentum in the run-up to the RK Nagar by election slated for December 21 and demands by various parties to even cancel it, Vikram Batra, Special Observer, and Rajesh Lakhoni, Chief Electoral Officer met representatives from DMK, AIAMDK, BJP, and BSP on Sunday to discuss modalities.

During the meeting, all the parties presented their complaints, mostly relating to bribing of voters with cash and utility items.
The ruling AIADMK sought action against the Opposition parties for pressurising election officials with false charges of bribe of voters. The Opposition parties on the other hand complained that it was the ruling dispensation which indulged in rampant bribing of voters.
The meeting was crucial as campaign draws to a close on Tuesday evening. Until Sunday, officials revealed cash seizure of Rs 30.29 lakh while as many as 84 criminal cases have been booked and 15 persons remanded.
As many as 83 vehicles were seized for poll code violation besides 505 instances of defacement of public property complaints were recorded.
Tension prevailed in RK Nagar Police station as a section of the public from Tiruvallur Nagar resorted to gherao after cops took custody of Selvi, (58), an organiser with a self-help group.
