Several sites and apps have sprung up where people can book their slots in sports clubs and courts. The Meet-up app too has many groups that allow people interested in a sport meet and play. Started in April, this city-based start-up Gameday, founded by Srinath Srinivasan, is a space where sports enthusiasts can book slots convenient for them.

“We are associated with over 100 facilities throughout the city and we serve over 10,000 customers. Sports like badminton, cricket and indoor futsal have gained popularity in the recent past. We have access to 45 per cent of the badminton courts and 70 per cent futsal premises in the city and also most of the major cricket grounds,” said Aldrin N of Gameday.

Where2Play is another platform that has all the information about the badminton courts in Chennai. “During our research we found out that there are many who’d like to play a sport during the weekend. But they don’t know where to go. So we have decided to create an app providing complete information about sports centres in the city, with the location closer to the user’s address appearing first,” explained Mahesh Kumar V, a co-founder. He added that they also kept in mind the fact that parents would want to send their wards to a sports centre that is closer home. The app so far has 5,000 downloads on Android. Apart from booking badminton courts in the city, they have A-Z details of badminton tournaments. They felicitate these tournaments and also prepare draws.

IAMPLAY is an interactive app exclusively for football lovers, It tracks and reflects users’ real-time football activity and helps explore and connect to others. After downloading, users can create a profile and see other similar profiles as cards. Football enthusiasts can form a group to chat and coordinate tournaments.

“The app comes in handy as I get to choose a court of my choice and even apply for tournaments,” said Mohit Kumar, a badminton enthusiast.
