Inspector killing: Kin, kiln owner grilled by police
Rajasthan police on Friday secured Tejaram, the owner of brick kiln in Pali, Rajasthan, where Maduravoyil inspector S Periyapandian was shot dead early Wednesday morning when he along with other Chennai police team went to nab the suspect Nathuram, wanted in Kolathur gold jewellery heist.
Chennai
Rajasthan police are questioning Tejaram and his wife Bindya, two daughters, to know if they are aware of the whereabouts of the wanted suspect in the heist, in which the burglars escaped with 3.5 kg gold, silver and cash on November 16, after drilling a hole on the roof of the ground floor jewellery shop, after hiring a room on the first floor.
Rajasthan police may book the family of Tejaram for attacking (pelting stones) the Chennai police team when the latter went to nab Nathuram in the village Rampurkalan, in Jaitaran police limit.
Sources said that Rajasthan police in its FIR, registered based on the complaint of Kolathur inspector Munisekhar, in connection with the death of Periyapandian had not named anybody as accused so far. It is made to believe that the suspect had taken the gun, which slipped off from Munisekhar’s possession, to shoot Periyapandian.
But, officially nobody has confirmed it so far. Guns belonging to both the inspectors were sent to forensic test and the bullet that allegedly pierced through Inspector Periyapandian’s body has been not recovered from the scene of crime till Friday afternoon.
The police on Friday disclosed that Mukesh Kumar, the owner of the Kolathur jewellery shop was in Rajasthan to help the Chennai special team. The special team will continue to remain in Rajasthan till the investigation is over.
Sources said that it was the owner of the shop, who had been camping in Pali for more than 10 days and zeroed in on the suspect’s hideout using local informers as he believed that the big portion of the stolen gold is hidden somewhere in Pali by the main suspect Nathuram.
