Police said that Sridhar hanged himself at his friend Arumugam’s house at Maalivakkam village, about five kilometres from Ponneri at 2 pm when the latter had gone out for work.

“He was depressed over the vigilance enquiry regarding the bribery charges against him and came to Arumugam’s house on December 8, looking for a change,” said police quoting his kin. Though Sridhar was supposed to retire on November 30, he was not relieved due to the ongoing enquiry, said sources. While Sridhar’s wife Amuthalakshmi (52) is working as a dentist at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, their son Surendar Srivatsa is a software engineer, married and settled abroad. Their daughter Sushmita Swathi is also married and working with a steel firm in Odisha. Trouble began for Sridhar on September 26, with Arappor Iyakkam releasing a seven-minute video in which Sridhar demanded Rs 500 to issue disability certificate to a visually challenged person. Within two days, the Director of Medical Education recommended the suspension of Dr K Sridhar.
