Dashwanth admits to killing 7-year-old
Court advises accused to avail of legal aid services; women activists try to attack the double murderer
Chennai
On Wednesday, Dashwanth’s lawyer withdrew his vakalat and refused to appear on behalf of the accused. When informed about the development during the hearing, Dashwanth pleaded that the Mahila Court, Chengalpattu, could go ahead with the trial as he admitted that he had committed the crime. However, Judge P Velmurugan instructed the police to obtain a petition from the accused to avail of legal assistance through Legal
Aid Services.
Earlier in the day, when he was brought into the court premises, a group of women activists abused him and charged towards him to attack with chappals. Police had a tough time controlling them, who tried to break the security cordon to reach to him and even tried to throw chappals at him. Though he admitted to killing the seven-year-old girl in the court, he told the media later that he has nothing to do with the murder of his mother Sarala, that had happened in their Kundrathur house.
It may be recalled that Dashwanth had allegedly killed his mother on December 2, while he was out on bail in connection with a murder case. He had allegedly raped and murdered a seven-year-old girl in February this year while he was living in an apartment in Mugalivakkam with his family. He came out on bail in September.
The trial of the murder case was scheduled to start on December 5, but it got delayed as he absconded after allegedly killing his mother. The police tracked him in Mumbai last week, but he had escaped from their custody there. The police team had re-arrested him in 24 hours in Mumbai and brought him to Chennai on Saturday.
In between the Chengalpet court issued a warrant against him asking the police to produce him in the court to face the trial in the murder case. As per the warrant, he was produced before the court on Wednesday. Chengalpet police had registered an FIR against Dashwanth for allegedly threatening the seven- year-old girl’s father inside court premises during the previous hearing. The father of the girl, a software professional, was told by Dashwanth that his son will face the same fate of his daughter if he continues to fight the case.
