After escape from hotel, Dashwanth caught in Mumbai betting centre
In a dramatic sequence of events, rape and murder accused Dashwanth, who escaped from the custody of Chennai police on Thursday in Mumbai, was caught again on Friday from a betting centre in Kala Ghoda with the assistance from Mumbai police, sources said.
Chennai
Dashwanth was arrested from Mumbai on Wednesday after he allegedly murdered his mother and fled with her jewellery in Chennai last Saturday. He was out on bail for the in a case related to the rape and murder of a 6-year-old girl in February this year when he killed his mother.
“He was located at an off-course Betting Centre in Kala Ghoda. He will be produced before a local court in connection with the case registered after he escaped from police custody on Thursday. He will be brought to Chennai on Saturday,” a police officer said, adding that an Assistant Commissioner from Chennai had gone to Mumbai on Friday.
When Dashwanth was finally caught on Friday, the handcuffs on his left hand were concealed by a full-sleeve shirt he was wearing. It seemed like he had earlier gone to the same betting centre because of his interest in horse racing. “He was hoping to get help from somebody there,” the officer noted. “Though Dashwant had escaped from police on Thursday, he had no money or cell phone with him. He had one handcuff on his left hand. All these made it difficult for him to merge with the crowd or to get a shelter,” the officer added.
On Thursday, the accused had escaped after pushing one of the escort cops in Vile Parle area while having lunch.
