After Trump’s comment, security beefed up for US Consulate
It may be noted that US Consulate in Chennai had been a soft target for people to mark protest against US’s actions.
Chennai
The Chennai police have beefed up security for the US Consulate, following American president Donald Trump’s decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, amid protests from Palestine and a few Arab nations.
Jerusalem was to be the capital of future state of Palestine and till now Tel Aviv had been cited as the capital of Israel.
“Although there is no specific threat, we decided to deploy additional police force to make sure no untoward incident happens in front of the Consulate,” a police official said, adding that the police are prepared.
It may be noted that US Consulate in Chennai had been a soft target for people to mark protest against US’s actions.
In September 2012, a protest against the controversial American film Innocence of Muslims turned violent when the US ConsulateGeneral on Anna Salai in Chennai was besieged by hundreds of Muslim protesters, who breached the police security cordon with ease.
