Bypoll will prove EC right in symbol case, says O Panneerselvam
Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam has said the victory of the unified AIADMK in the ensuing December 21 bypoll to RK Nagar Assembly seat would prove right the Election Commission’s decision to allot the ‘Two Leaves’ to the ruling party.

Talking to reporters at Kancheepuram, about 70 km from here on Sunday, he said the people of the state have welcomed the EC’s decision to allot the hugely popular ‘Two Leaves’ symbol to the group headed by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami. “They are now waiting for the RK Nagar bypoll to prove that the EC’s decision is correct,” he added.
Panneerselvam, who is also the coordinator of the party, said as the symbol was allotted to the ruling party, it would thwart the opposition parties’ dream of defeating the AIADMK in the forthcoming elections.
“Not only in RK Nagar bypoll, the ‘Two Leaves’ symbol will register historical victories in all the forthcoming elections, be it local body or other elections,” he added.
On Opposition parties remarks that people used to cast their votes based on the candidature and not by the election symbols, he said of the 45 years during which the ‘Two Leaves’ symbol remained in the electoral fray, the voters have given the authority to the party to rule the state for 27 years.
The opposition parties, having realised the importance of this ‘victorious symbol,’ chosen by party founder MGR and nurtured by the late CM J Jayalalithaa in electoral politics, have now started spreading false information among the electorate, he charged.
