Speaking to the media, she said, CM EPS should initiate continuous action against the kandhuvatti (usury) mafia instead of taking action for a few days. Recalling the incident of a family committing self-immolation due to kandhuvatti menace, she said the CM had promised to take action against then. Citing the death of Ashok Kumar, a relative of director Sasikumar, due to threats of a usury businessman, she said, “The crime is continuing for many years. The government should take consistent action to weed out this,” she insisted.
She also asked the government to provide alternative shelter for the traders near the Kodambakkam fly over as they were promised such alternative sites for business when the flyover was built. She also inspected a few hotels to check if they had reduced the GST rates after the reduction of tax to food items to 5 per cent.
