Arson on university campus after student commits suicide

Earlier in the day, university staff took a first year BE computer science student to task after she was allegedly caught cheating during an internal examination. The girl, identified as Druva Raga Moulika, 18, hailing from Hyderabad, was reportedly insulted by a faculty member in front of everybody. The student then went and hanged herself in the hostel room. Her twin brother Rakesh Reddy studies in the same college. The body of the victim was sent to Royapettah GH, in the evening.

Officers claimed the university administration prevented fire tenders from entering the campus even as students continued burning beds inside the hostel room. The university staff allegedly told the personnel that they would douse the fire using their own water tankers. By evening, angry students went on a rampage.

Later in the night, police personnel was allowed inside the campus. “The police team has pacified the students as of now,” an officer said. It may be noted that in 2006, a student of the same college was part of a similar protest after they were not given clear response by management on queries on AICTE approved courses.
