A middle-aged man triggered tension at the Chennai airport in the wee hours of Sunday when he was found wandering in the area where old flights are parked.

The CCTV footage shows that he entered the airport through Gate 5 at the old airport area, meant for VVIPs such as the Chief Minster and the Governor, who take charted flights. The man had crossed two gates to reach the other side of the airport and walked down the northern side, said sources.
Security officials noticed him in the CCTV live streaming and surrounded him at gun point. He was thoroughly searched and during inquiry, police found that the man could be mentally unstable. “When asked for his name, he kept showing his left hand, where it is tattooed Kaniyan. But he did not share any other details,” said an official.
But the man claimed that he was a VIP and he knows many actors, including Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan. He also reportedly told the officials that he came to the airport to buy airplanes and claimed to be rich enough to buy one. After the night-long inquiry, he was handed over to the airport police. He was taken to Pallikaranai, since he mentioned the area during investigation.
Following the incident, security has been beefed up at Gate 6 and 7 of the airport and the security officials are being questioned how a man managed to sneak through the high-security entry without getting caught.
