Inaugurating a cultural festival in the city, he said he felt it a great honour and pride to be the resident of Chennai. He also said “The music of our country is not just the proud legacy of India, but it is also of the world as a whole.” The Srutis, the melodic ragas and the rhythmic talas were the most cherished artistic contribution of India to the world of music and that was the richness of Hindustani and Carnatic music, he added.
Observing that beautiful things bring together great nations and people and help in understanding each other better, the Governor said it was the beauty of art which unites the whole world into one family in the spirit of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”.
Purohit said the appreciation of art and dance should be nurtured right from childhood and developing the flair for music, dance and art should start from home.
He said cultivating an atmosphere to listen to the rhythm of music, feel the beauty of nature and enjoy dance would create in young minds an aspiration to learn the nuances of various art forms.
The Governor appealed to the musicians, dancers and artists, sabhas, connoisseurs of art, rasikas and to the students of music to carry on the rich legacy of the state’s art forms to the nations across the globe.
