Son’s ill health forces aged couple to commit suicide

The deceased were identified as Krishanappa Reddiyar (85) and his wife Govindammal (80) of Krishnapuram in Periyapalaylam. Police said that the two octogenarians were upset over their son Selvaraj’s bad health after both of his legs were amputated two years ago. Selvaraj, who has a wife named Shanthi and three children, had been bedridden since then. Recently, the health condition of his parents too deteriorated making it difficult for them to attend to the needs of their son.

Unable to bear the burden, the octogenarian couple consumed pesticide. Late on Thursday evening, their neighbours rushed them to the Tiruvallur GH. However, the couple died on Friday morning.
