    The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), on Monday said that moderate to heavy rain will occur over Chennai and its suburbs during the next 24 hours.

    According to the weathermen, the low-pressure in the Bay of Bengal that has been prevailing in South-West Bay region, continues to persist in the same area in a broad circulation. After a day of sunshine on Saturday, Sunday saw many parts of Chennai receive moderate to heavy spells of rains in the late evening from thunderstorms that moved in from off the coast of South Andhra Pradesh.

    Speaking to DTNext, SB Thambi, Deputy Director-General of Meteorology, RMC, said, “There will be moderate to heavy spells of rain in Chennai and its suburbs till Tuesday evening, while some coastal districts like Nagapattinam and Thiruvarur will receive the heaviest spells of rains.”

    K Srikanth, a weather blogger at ChennaiyilOruMazhaikkalam, said, “The rain which started around 8 pm on Sunday,across the northern suburbs of the city, slowly found its way moving across the city, delivering some of the heaviest spells of rain in Nungambakkam, Kilpauk and in the other central areas of Chennai.” The intensity of the rain may reduce from Tuesday night, he added.
